Seleucus I Nicator was born in 358 BC. He was a general under Alexander the Great and one of the most powerful rulers of the Hellenistic period. After Alexander's death, Seleucus founded the Seleucid Empire, which ruled over much of the Middle East for over two centuries. He was known for his military prowess and his patronage of the arts and sciences.
