At the request of Farah Pahlavi, the Shahbanu (Empress) of Iran, Seyyed Hossein Nasr founded the Imperial Iranian Academy of Philosophy (IIAP) in 1975. The academy's mission was to study and disseminate Iranian and Islamic thought and to promote dialogue between Eastern and Western philosophical traditions.
