Imran Khan was elected as the Prime Minister of Pakistan on August 18, 2018. He replaced Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, who had been in office since August 1, 2017. Khan's party, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), won a majority of seats in the National Assembly in the July 2018 general election. Khan is the first prime minister of Pakistan to have been born after the country's independence in 1947.
