Shane MacGowan was born in Pembury, England on December 25, 1957. He is an Irish singer-songwriter, best known as the lead vocalist and principal songwriter of the Pogues. MacGowan's songwriting has been described as "raw, romantic, and poetic", and his voice as "raw, gravelly, and passionate".
