Ruling from approximately 240 to 270, Shapur I was the second Sasanian King of Kings. He was recognized as a great military leader, expanding the Sasanian Empire to its greatest extent, incorporating significant portions of the Roman territories in the west and Kushan territories in the east. His victories against the Roman Empire led to the capture of the Roman emperor Valerian, a humiliating defeat for Rome.
