Shapur II was the Sasanian King of Persia from 309 to 379. He was the son of Hormizd II and succeeded his father in 309. Shapur II was a successful ruler and expanded the Sasanian Empire to its greatest extent. He defeated the Roman Empire in a series of wars and conquered Armenia, Mesopotamia, Syria, and Palestine.
