Answer
Contrary to popular belief, Shen Kuo was not the first to describe the steam engine. The concept of a steam-powered device was already known in ancient Greece, with descriptions provided by Heron of Alexandria in the 1st century AD. Shen Kuo, however, made significant contributions to other fields of science and technology during the Song Dynasty, including astronomy, mathematics, cartography, and metallurgy.
