Shirin Ebadi was born on June 21, 1947. She is an Iranian lawyer, judge, human rights activist, and author. In 2003, she was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for her efforts to promote democracy and human rights, particularly the rights of women and children. Ebadi is the first Iranian woman to receive the Nobel Peace Prize.
