Bill Stealey co-founded MicroProse with Sid Meier in 1982. Stealey was a software engineer who had previously worked at Digital Research and Infocom. Meier was a game designer who had previously worked at Avalon Hill. The two men met in 1979 and decided to start their own company. MicroProse was originally founded to develop and publish educational software, but the company quickly shifted its focus to video games.
