Simon Rattle has been primarily a conductor of orchestral music. He was principal conductor of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra from 1980 to 1998, the Berlin Philharmonic from 2002 to 2018, and the London Symphony Orchestra from 2017 to the present. He has also been a guest conductor with many other orchestras around the world.
