University of Cambridge was the academic home of George Gabriel Stokes throughout his career. He matriculated at Pembroke College in 1841, and after graduating as Senior Wrangler in 1844, he was elected a Fellow of Pembroke in 1849. Stokes remained at Cambridge for the rest of his life, serving as Lucasian Professor of Mathematics from 1849 to 1903.
