Sister Nivedita was a disciple of Swami Vivekananda, a Hindu monk and a key figure in the introduction of the Indian philosophies of Vedanta and Yoga to the Western world. Nivedita was born in Ireland in 1867, and she became interested in Indian philosophy after reading the works of Swami Vivekananda. She traveled to India in 1898, and she became a close disciple of Vivekananda.
