The Qing dynasty's Viceroy of Sichuan, Liu Kunyi, led Song Qing into the Battle of Yingkou. The Manchu-led Qing dynasty, to which Liu Kunyi belonged, had ruled over China since the 17th century. The Battle of Yingkou took place in 1894 and was one of the first major battles of the First Sino-Japanese War, where China was defeated by the Japanese Empire.
