In what year would Sophia of Hanover have become Queen of Britain and Ireland?

  • 1712

  • 1713

  • 1714

  • 1715

Answer

Sophia of Hanover would have become Queen of Britain and Ireland in 1714. This is because she was the eldest surviving Protestant descendant of James I of England, and thus the next in line to the throne after Queen Anne, who died childless. However, Sophia died in 1714, just a few months before Anne, and so her son George I became King of Britain and Ireland.
