Sophie was Scottish. She was born in the Scottish town of Kilmarnock, and she lived there for most of her life. She was a writer, and she is best known for her novels "The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie" and "The Girls of Slender Means." She also wrote a number of short stories and essays.
