Soraya Esfandiary-Bakhtiary, known by her single name Soraya, was the second wife of Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, the last Shah of Iran. Born on June 22, 1932, in Isfahan, Iran, she came from a prominent Bakhtiari family. She married the Shah in 1951, and their union lasted for a decade, until 1960, when they divorced due to her inability to bear children.
