Joseph Robidoux, a prominent fur trader and explorer, was the namesake of St. Joseph, Missouri. He established a trading post in the area in 1826, which became a hub for westward expansion and trade. The city of St. Joseph was later founded on the site of Robidoux's post and named in his honor.
