Bar and Lorraine were the final two duchies ruled by Stanisław Leszczyński, the former King of Poland and Grand Duke of Lithuania. After losing the Polish throne, he was granted the Duchy of Bar in 1737 and the Duchy of Lorraine in 1738, both by his father-in-law, King Louis XV of France. Leszczyński ruled these duchies until his death in 1766.
