In the 14th century, Stefan Dušan expanded the Serbian Empire to include a large part of southeast Europe. He conquered Macedonia, Bulgaria, Albania, Bosnia, and Herzegovina, and parts of Greece and Croatia. His empire was the largest in the Balkans since the fall of the Roman Empire.
