Stefan Dušan was proclaimed King of Serbia on 8 September 1331, following the death of his father, Stephen Uroš III Dečanski. Dušan had already been serving as regent for his father since 1321, and he quickly established himself as a strong and capable ruler. He conquered much of the Balkans, and in 1346 he was crowned Emperor of Serbia.
