Sung Y. Kim has not served as U.S. Special Representative for North Korea Policy. Kim is a diplomat and former U.S. Ambassador to South Korea. He served as Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs in the Obama administration. He was nominated by President Trump to serve as U.S. Ambassador to the Philippines, but the Senate has not yet confirmed his nomination.
