The first-ever Grand Final of what is now known as the UEFA Champions League was held in Manchester, England. The match took place at Wembley Stadium on May 26, 1968, and saw Real Madrid defeat Partizan Belgrade 2-1. The tournament, then known as the European Champion Clubs' Cup, had been established 14 years earlier and had grown in popularity and prestige to become the premier club competition in European football.
