In 1980, the King Faisal Award for Service to Islam was awarded to Abul A'la Maududi. Maududi was a Muslim theologian, philosopher, and politician who was the founder of the Jamaat-e-Islami party in India. He was a proponent of Islamic revivalism and believed that Islam was the solution to the problems facing the Muslim world.
