José Mujica was the 40th President of Uruguay, serving from 2010 to 2015. He was a member of the Broad Front coalition, which he led from 2005 to 2015. Mujica was born in Montevideo, Uruguay, on 20 May 1935. He was the son of a farmer and a schoolteacher. Mujica joined the Tupamaros, a leftist guerrilla group, in 1962.
