The Bar Confederation was a civil war in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth that lasted from 1768 to 1772. Tadeusz Kościuszko, a Polish military engineer and political leader, participated in the war and moved to France after its conclusion. The war was fought between the Polish nobility and the Russian Empire, and resulted in the first partition of Poland.
