Tadeusz Mazowiecki attended the University of Warsaw, where he studied law. After graduating, he worked as a lawyer and journalist. He was also active in the Polish Solidarity movement, and was imprisoned for his involvement. After the fall of communism, he became the first non-communist prime minister of Poland. He served in this position from 1989 to 1991.
