The reign of Taksin, known as the Thonburi Kingdom, concluded in 1782. He assumed the throne after the fall of the Ayutthaya Kingdom by the Burmese in 1767 and established Thonburi as the new capital. Taksin successfully resisted the Burmese incursions and expanded his influence over much of present-day Thailand and parts of Cambodia and Laos.
