Tamim Iqbal was the captain of Bangladesh's national cricket team in One Day Internationals from 2020 to 2023. He was appointed as the captain of the team in February 2020, replacing Mashrafe Mortaza. Iqbal led the team to a victory in the 2020–21 Asia Cup, and a runner-up finish in the 2021 ICC Cricket World Cup Super League.
