Theodore Samuel Williams, nicknamed the Splendid Splinter, was born in San Diego, California, on August 30, 1918. He was a professional baseball player who played for the Boston Red Sox from 1939 to 1960. Williams was a left-handed batter and a center fielder. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1966.
