Faf du Plessis was replaced as Test captain of South Africa by Temba Bavuma. Bavuma, a 31-year-old middle-order batsman, had been vice-captain of the Test side since 2019 and had led the team in two matches in du Plessis' absence. He is the first black African to captain the South African Test team.
