Elie Hobeika was 55 years old when he was assassinated in Beirut in 2002. He was a former Lebanese militia leader who had been involved in the Lebanese Civil War. He was assassinated by a car bomb, which also killed three of his bodyguards. The assassination is believed to have been carried out by Hezbollah, a Lebanese Shi'ite militant group.
