Abang Johari bin Openg, the current Chief Minister of Sarawak, served as the Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Satok for 40 years. He first won the seat in 1979 and was re-elected in every subsequent election until he stepped down in 2019. During his time in office, he oversaw the development of Satok into a modern town with a population of over 30,000.
