Theoktistos was the most prominent advisor of the Byzantine Empress Theodora. He was a eunuch and a former slave who rose through the ranks of the imperial administration. He was responsible for many of Theodora's policies, including her support of the Monophysite church. Theoktistos was also a key player in the Nika riots of 532, which almost led to the overthrow of the emperor Justinian.
