Nhất Hạnh co-founded the School of Youth for Social Services in the 1960s. The school was created to provide young people with opportunities to serve their communities and to learn about the teachings of Buddhism. Nhất Hạnh believed that young people were the future of Vietnam and that they needed to be given the opportunity to make a difference in the world.
