Thomas Gold was an Austrian astrophysicist, cosmologist, geochemist, and biophysicist who worked on the origin of the Earth's atmosphere, the origin of the Moon, and the origin of life. He is best known for his work on the Miller–Urey experiment, which showed that organic molecules could be formed from inorganic materials under conditions similar to those thought to have existed on the early Earth.
