Lawrence painted portraits of the Allied leaders who defeated Napoleon at the Battle of Waterloo for the Waterloo Chamber at Windsor Castle. These leaders included the Duke of Wellington, the Prussian Field Marshal Gebhard Leberecht von Blücher, the Austrian Field Marshal Karl Philipp von Schwarzenberg, and the Russian Tsar Alexander I. The portraits were commissioned by King George IV in 1815 and were completed in 1818.
