Thich Nhat Hanh is a Vietnamese monk, poet, peace activist, and teacher. He was a student of Thomas Merton, a Catholic monk, theologian, and writer. Merton and Nhat Hanh corresponded and met several times over the course of their lives. They shared a deep commitment to peace and nonviolence, and they both believed that Buddhism could offer a way to overcome the divisions and conflicts of the modern world.
