Silverstein spent the majority of his life in prison. After serving time in various prisons for crimes related to his drug addiction, he was incarcerated at the United States Penitentiary, Marion in Illinois for his role in a series of bank robberies. He spent 17 years at Marion before being transferred to the ADX Florence Supermax Prison in Colorado in 1994.
