Answer
Thornton Chase was an American Baha'i, one of the earliest members of the Baha'i Faith in the United States. He died in 1902. In 1911, ʻAbdu'l-Bahá, the son of the founder of the Baha'i Faith, visited the United States and identified Chase's gravesite as a place of religious visitation. This was the first time that a Bahá'í holy place had been designated outside of Iran, the birthplace of the religion.
