Peggy Flanagan succeeded Tina Smith as lieutenant governor of Minnesota in January 2019. Flanagan is a member of the White Earth Band of Ojibwe and is the first Native American woman to hold the office. She was previously a member of the Minnesota House of Representatives from 2013 to 2019. Flanagan is a Democrat.
