Todd Matshikiza was a South African pianist, composer, and playwright. He is best known for his collaboration with poet and activist Dennis Brutus on the musical "The Island", which was first performed in 1973. Matshikiza played the piano on the original cast recording of "The Island", and also appeared in the film adaptation of the play. He died in 1999 at the age of 72.
