In 1992, Todd McFarlane, along with Jim Lee, Erik Larsen, and Rob Liefeld, co-founded Image Comics. They were all artists who had worked for Marvel Comics, but they were unhappy with the way they were treated. They wanted to have more creative control over their work, and they wanted to be able to keep more of the profits. Image Comics was created to give them that freedom.
