Tom Lantos was the Chair of the House Foreign Affairs Committee from 1985 to 1995. During his time as Chair, Lantos oversaw the passage of several important pieces of legislation, including the Comprehensive Anti-Apartheid Act of 1986 and the Foreign Relations Authorization Act of 1990. Lantos also played a key role in the establishment of the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom.
