Toshiya Fujita represented Japan on the national level as a member of the Japan Socialist Party. He was elected to the House of Representatives in 1972 and served until 1986. He was also a member of the Diet from 1986 to 1990. Fujita was a strong advocate for peace and disarmament, and he was a member of the Japan-United States Friendship Commission.
