Toyotomi Hideyoshi (1536 – 1598) was a Japanese daimyo, general, politician, and regent who rose from humble beginnings to become one of the most powerful daimyo in the Sengoku period. After the death of Oda Nobunaga, he unified Japan under his rule, and was posthumously awarded the title of "Taiko" (Great Regent). He adopted the name Hashiba Hideyoshi after 1582.
