Troy Davis was born in Miami on January 9, 1968. He was the oldest of six children. His father left the family when he was young, and his mother worked as a maid to support them. Davis dropped out of school in the ninth grade and began selling drugs. In 1989, he was convicted of the murder of a police officer and sentenced to death.
