Frederick II was the King of Denmark and Norway from 1559 to 1588. In the 1570s, he built Kronborg Castle in Helsingør, Denmark. Kronborg is a Renaissance castle and one of the most famous castles in Denmark. It is located on the eastern shore of the Øresund Strait, which separates Denmark from Sweden. Kronborg Castle was used as a setting for William Shakespeare's play Hamlet.
