Marjane Satrapi was born in Tehran, Iran in 1969. Her parents were both intellectuals and her father was a professor of history. She grew up in a relatively privileged household and attended a French school. However, the Iranian Revolution in 1979 changed her life drastically. Her father was imprisoned and her family was forced to flee to France.
