Pope Urban IV served as the head of the Catholic Church from 1261 to 1264. He was born in France and was a member of the Cistercian order of monks. He was elected pope in 1261 and during his papacy he promoted the Crusades and excommunicated King Manfred of Sicily. He also canonized Saint Louis IX, King of France. Urban IV died in 1264.
