Urban IV spent most of his papacy in Orvieto. He was a French cleric who was elected Pope in 1261. He was a member of the Franciscan order and was known for his piety and devotion to the poor. He was also a strong supporter of the Crusades. During his papacy, he moved the papal court from Rome to Orvieto, which was a safer location.
